Group show featuring William Mize, Bob Landstrom, Erik Gonzales, Kenneth Procter
Opening Reception 7-10PM, Thursday, March 4.
Alan Avery Art Company

This group show features work by William Mize, Bob Landstrom, Erik Gonzales and Kenneth Procter. Mize believes painting is a way to define himself in relation to the world around him and uses his work to fully understand his environment - be it a house, a landscape or an abstract idea. Landstrom's work is centered on positive energy and urges the viewer to dream rather than dwell. In Gonzales' art, images & symbols mix and coalesce with colors and textures to show the paintings history. Procter uses charcoal to paint landscapes that are brushed, scraped, scratched, dabbed, blown and blotted.

    •  Alan Avery is a truly superior gallery. All the pieces were displayed and lighted well; the space is open and welcoming. Each the artists presented shared a collection of their work that was both interesting and enjoyable to experience.
    •  I enjoyed it. I particularly liked the 'city lights'.
    •  Kenneth Proctor's work was the smallest, but the most powerful (among all artists represented) in a nuanced sort of way. There were some other paintings that were effective and interested. There were some works that were poor. The nocturnal cityscapes (along the walls of the staircase) were pretty lame appropriations of photographs. It was a large crowd present with a good free bar. I'm only sorry I got there late because I didn't get to see many of the Art Openings Meetup group members (or many there just weren't too many there). Well, there's always next time. Thanks to Garrin for bringing a good opening to our attention.
